A 200 Year Old Family Legacy Continues
Tom Mastroianni, known as the ‘Boot maker’ in Mona Vale opened his business in 1972. His grandfather, father and his nephew Dominic all learnt this ancient craft of a cobbler. Tom was known for his excellent craftsmanship, no repair whether it was a handbag, shoes or any leather good was too difficult. In September 2011, whilst on his way to work at his business in Mona Vale, Tom died suddenly. Four days short of his 70th birthday, Tom did what he loved doing all his life. He enjoyed being part of the community of the Mona Vale Business centre.
Unable to let the family legacy die, Tom’s son-in-law Vince decided to continue the business and offer the same quality and friendly service Tom had for so long. Working with Vince, Dominic who was taught by Tom from the age of 17(1978), when he left high school and began his apprenticeship. When Vince decided to take over the family business, he thought of no one better to work with than the Master’s apprentice, who now has become the Master Cobbler in Mona Vale. Both Vince and Dominic hope to continue the legacy that Tom left.

Dominic – Bootmaker
Dominic who was taught by Tom from (1978) at the age of 17, when he left high school and began his apprenticeship. In 1981, Dominic was awarded the ‘Top Apprentice of the Year’ Award. Dominic, now the 4th generation to continue this family tradition, worked at Mona Vale for the next 11 years. After learning as much as he could from the ‘master’ cobbler, Dominic decided to venture out on his own and bought a Shoe Repair shop in Dee Why. Dominic entered the Australian Repairers Association’s national competitions to determine the best Shoe Repairer in Australia.
In both 1991 (Perth) and 1994 (South Australia) Dominic was awarded with this outstanding award for his craftsmanship. After 10 years in Dee Why Dominic decided to move his business to his home, however he helped his Uncle Tom at his business in Mona Vale. In 2005 Dominic returned to full time work as a repairer with Tom and continued to work with him for the following 3 years.
Vince – Sales and Repairs
When Vince decided to take over the family business, he thought of no one better to work with than the Master’s apprentice, who now has become the Master Cobbler in Mona Vale.
Vince has taken Tom’s formula for importing and selling quality Italian leather goods, specialising in mens and ladies leather shoes, and expanded it to include a range of belts, wallets and leather and shoe care products.
